Hopefully I have this figured out...

Hello everyone! I have just caught up on all the blog postings. It's really exciting to see how many people have gotten something in such short time! When we got back from class, I sent out my resumes to several places and literally two hours later, was hired with Educational Tours, Inc. I have yet to actually tour with them but am lined up for 10 or so tours with them. I also went on tour of Springfield with Hemisphere and have a couple with them in the spring- all in Chicago. No winter Chicago tours... I have no idea why no one wants to visit here in the winter which is, sadly, beginning.

Like a few of you, I am going to work with EF Smithsonian for the inauguration and will train there Dec. 17-19. Thanks to Michael for all the info! Living in Chicago makes it even more exciting for me. I was involved in the campaign and went to Grant Park on the election so being in DC during the inauguration will be the icing on the cake.

I look forward to seeing you all in Texas. I know several of you opted out but who is still in?

It must have been awesome being at Grant Park on Nov. 4th. I was just there a couple of days prior on a student training tour. Looks like I'll be in Chicago more often than any other location with Travel Adventures. Not sure yet if I'll get an assignment for the Inauguration but the marketing dept. are interested in bringing me along to photograph the event for their website! If not, I might be visiting Mike. Good Luck!!

Hi All>> Its crazy here and getting crazier everyday as the inauguration draws closer.. I and all the guides iv chatted with are getting calls, emails, letters, etc.. everyday offering positions as step-ons during the festivities.. im hearing nightmare stories also (of groups with confirmed reservations being contacted and having those reservations cancelled) it seems that everyone wants to come to see the event..( EF Smithsonian, i hear, has reservations for 7,000 kids so far..) its also on the news here everynite, like the superbowl or something.. each congressional office is being allotted 250 tickets for reserved spots for the swearing-in and parade route.. thats over 100,000 tickets.. these are the only tickets available and they are free to each congressman's staff, family, and friends.. they are permitted to 'give them' to their family and friends.. (selling tickets is against the congress' code of ethics)... lol.. all others are free to witness the events as best they can.. so far i hear that 2 large viewing screens will be placed on the mall, but city officials are trying to find funds to put screens every tenth of a mile or so down the mall (question for the dc tour guide license test: how many screens would that be? just kidding!! answer: 25 screens)..

Iv been here for many inaugurals and cannot remember one when the weather was good.. probably the best place to see the event will be on tv, at home, in front of a fireplace.. As you know I have accepted a tour director's gig so il be with my group of 50 kids from friday, through the wednesday after the event.. as of today my apartments are vacant although i have placed them on a directory for 'places for rent'.. so anyone that wants to come to dc is welcomed to come and crash at my places with my compliments if they are free.. (you may have to share with some other friends of mine, but you know i only have 'cool' friends like you.. lol)..

From the PennAv apt you can see the parade from my balcony and the swearing-in from the roof deck (im not sure if 'security' will actually permit rooftop viewing).. would love to see you all.. if not here, then at sympos..

all my best.. mike
